· Bobby Vinton was born April 16, 1935; in Canonsburg, PA (Perry Como was also born there).
· His hometown named 2 streets, Bobby Vinton Blvd and the shorter adjoining Bobby Vinton Dr. in his honor. They also wanted to erect a statue which Bobby vetoed noting that the $100,000 could go to far more important town needs.
· Bobby has a degree in musical composition from Duquesne University and became proficient in all of the instruments in the band: piano, clarinet, sax, trumpet, drums and oboe.
· Bobby signed with Epic Records in 1960 after a 2 year stint in the U.S. Army. After 2 albums and several singles that went nowhere, Epic was ready to pull the plug. He found Roses Are Red literally sitting in a reject pile.
· Bobby wrote Mr. Lonely during his service in the Army. It was recorded at the same session that produced Roses Are Red. Despite pressure from Bobby to release it as a single, Epic had Buddy Guy release it and it flopped. 2 years later it was included on the Greatest Hits album and became his 4th biggest hit.
· Billboard Magazine called Bobby the all-time most successful love singer of the rock era.
· Bobby has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6919 Hollywood Blvd.
· Bobby and his wife Dolly have been married since December 17, 1962. They currently reside in Englewood, FL. |
